FROM POLAND WITH LOVE
The line "Home" of FIBARO is one of the most famous lines of components for the personal home automation in the consumer market scenario. FIBARO, probased in Poland, he has distinguished himself in recent years for the variety and design of the propri components (among the most appresettable in aesthetic terms) and for the philosophy behind the profirst line products, which provides - for some elements of the line - a double compatibility: one towards the standard Z-Wave and a verse Appthe HomeKits. This does not mean that the components are compatible simultaneously for the two standards, but rather that some components are available on the market both version Z-Wave than in HomeKit version. Components not compatible with AppHomeKits are available, by definition, only in version Z-Wave.
Some of the models Z-Wave they can also interoperate with the system SmartThings by SAMSUNG.
The line is articulated in various components of different nature divided, by FIBARO, into large ones macrocategories: energy and thelumination, gates etapparelle, heating, security, activations and power stations. Some components are quite traditional, while some objectively present a level of technological advancement of value.
All components can be configured and managed via theapp mobile FIBARO HomeCenter (available for iOS e Android) and (some) through theapp SmartThings; obviously compatible components Appthe HomeKits they can be governed even only (and directly) through theapp Appthe "Houses".
Theapp FIBARO HomeCenter (in havenamento with a BRIDGE/Gateway Z-Wave↔︎TCP/IP Fibaro which we will talk about shortly) acts as central automation, enabling the historical analysis of the profirst home automation, the remote management, to the obvious automation and much more.
BRIDGE/Gateway e HUB
Before we go into the various components of the line, we need to mention that the (potential) heart of the FIBARO ecosystem, or theHome Center Lite or l 'Home Center 2, required (one of the two) for the adoption of any component of the FIBARO "Home" line based on Z-Wave (in the absence of any other BRIDGE/Gateway Z-Wave↔︎TCP/IP in profirst home automation, as explained below). THE compatible components Appthe HomeKits they have no need for Home Centers, because they work directly with (and only) the final inspection tools Apple.
Having said that, let us try to better illustrate the role of these Home Center regardless of the theme Appand then focusing only on the topic - far more articulated - Z-Wave.
As we have anticipated, the instrument proposed by FIBARO for the administration of proits ecosystem is theapp mobile FIBARO HomeCenter. this app it is not able to "talk" directly with the components Z-Wave of the FIBARO "Home" line which, like all the components Z-Wave, they need a BRIDGE/Gateway what to do for theappanointed by bridge tra il proProtocol Z-Wave and our network TCP/IP (typically the Wi-Fi and / or ethernet), a network with which our smartphone / talblet is able to communicate and then, ultimately, theapp FIBARO HomeCenter.
Here therefore explained the purpose of Home Center Lite or l 'Home Center 2: that of BRIDGE/Gateway between the components Z-Wave of the line and theapp FIBARO HomeCenter. The coupled Home Center (Lite or 2) and theapp Mobile HomeCenter actually gives life to one central automation (o HUB), which allows the definition of automations, of remote control, of historical analysis of sensor readings and much more.
But why two versions?
The model Home Center 2, in fact, in addition to the functions of HUB also present on the Lite model, it provides not only the possibility to communicate with the components of the FIBARO “Home” line, but also to integrate components of lines other than FIBARO ones (of type Z-Wave, but also based on other technologies). In practice, FIBARO Home Center 2 more than a "simple" HUB” it is a true e proprio personale HUB hardware. If we will, we will try to do this on this device FOCUS ad hoc, because surely it is worthy of attention for the reasons mentioned above.
But there are alternatives to implement FIBARO "Home" components Z-Wave without the adoption of Home Center?
The first solution that comes to mind (the cheapest) is to adopt personal HUBsoftware that, through the adoption of simple antennas Z-Wave connected to the computer on which they are running (for example the Aeotec Z-Stick), manage to drive these components Z-Wave. An example is to use Home Assistant, which (once equipped with the antenna Z-Wave above) can easily manage to pilot most of the FIBARO components Z-Wave.
Energy and thelumination
In this context, FIBARO "Home" presents a great variety of elements that are very different from one another but all share the same characteristic: the ability to monitor absorption. The historical trend (as well as the totals) of this data is obviously borne by theHUB in use (these functions are available using theapp FIBARO HomeCenter mobile, as well as - of course - up Home Assistant, Homey etc).
FOR WALL BOX. There are some elements of the "Home" line suitable for installation in wall boxes. First we talk about the Switch, an element among those available both in version Z-Wave that in version Appthe HomeKits and capable of operating as a switch, which can also be controlled by a traditional mechanical wall switch (those in the Walli series, which we will see later, no are suitable). Also equipped with absorption monitoring, it is also able to provide pleasant functions such as the increasing lighting of the lights.
2 dimmer, instead, it is an actuator not available in HomeKit version but only Z-Wave and, as the name suggests, has the same functions as the switch but also allows for intensity adjustment luminosa. It also allows on / off control via a traditional wall switch, unfortunately it does not allow tactile adjustment via external elements. Very interesting then theRGBW Controller, an actuator that not only allows the management of ignition, switching off and regulation of intensity, but also the control of multicolored LED strips, which makes this component perhaps the most versatile among those in the catalog, even taking into consideration the cost.
Not for wall mounting, but rather as a thorn finally we mention the Wall Plug, available both in version Z-Wave that in version Appthe HomeKits (REVIEW), which allows you to virtually dominate any plug-in appliance.
WALLI SERIES. It is a set of actuators (only Z-Wave) with wall installation with an attractive design useful for the activation, monitoring and regulation of the electrical supply. These are all components, equipped with a LED ring that embellishes the look as well as providing, as we will see, a series of visual features. This ring lumiFurthermore, it guarantees a slightluminight nation useful for identifying actuators in the dark.
Walli Outlet is an intelligent wall plug that can withstand up to Loading 16A; this load level appThe license is instantly communicated to the user thanks to thelumicolored nation of the aforementioned LED ring, allowing us to understand when a socket is supplying current and how much. The plug can obviously be controlled via home automation (on / off, no dimmering).
Walli Switch it is instead a simple on / off switch able to manage one or two connected loads. This management is regulated in home automation based on the configured gestures; the LED can be configured in terms of behavior (if switched on and when, and in what color). Also this component is able to read the loads applicati, as well as the Walli dimmer and the Walli Roll Shutter, respectively a regulator of lumistrength and a regulator of tappadjustable arches, shutters and garage doors. Switch, Dimmer and Roll Shutter are all aesthetically identical: the functions are obviously different.
FIBARO presents in the catalog an interesting solution called 3 Roller Shutter which makes it possible to domotize with easeappmotorized arches, curtains, shutters, garage doors. Also based on Z-Wave (no compatibility with Apple HomeKit), can be easily controlled by the aforementioned Roll Shutter Walli, so as to easily adjust the adjustment.
Very interesting then Smart Implant, essentially a clean contact manageable via Z-Wave, a function particularly appreciated by those who want to domotize, through the technique of clean contact, the most disparate functions.
Also, the Smart Implant allows to connect to probus a series of sensors, thus acting as a support for additional functions in addition to the clean contact. It is therefore a particularly versatile component, as is the User Manual let it be understood.
For heating, the clean contact offered by Smart Implant of which above - which allows to domotize old generation boilers as explained also in this other example based on Sonoff - is already particularly useful in itself. Then flanked by theHeat Controller (thermostatic head Z-Wave, also sold in kit) allows the user to domotize domestic heating simply and effectively. Characterizing element of this FIBARO solution, yet another colored LED ring on the manual adjustment knob, which provides immediate visual indications on temperature regulation. A particularly useful solution so far, of its kind.
Heat Controllerit is also available in a compatible version Appthe HomeKits (here the kit).
Security e protection
Security domotic management is one of the sectors - along with thelumiNation - where FIBARO catalogs the largest number of home automation sensors and actuators.
As for presence detection, the sensor Door /Windows Sensor 2 (Z-Wave e Appthe HomeKits) is useful for monitoring the opening of the gates; the Motion Sensor (Z-Wave e Appthe HomeKits – REVIEW) is one of the most iconic multi-sensors of the FIBARO “Home” line: it is an “eye” (which is very reminiscent of Sauron de The Lord of the Rings) able to monitor the crossing of a hot body inside the profield of action, in addition to providing the temperature and relative humidity reading of the environment in which it is installed. The color of the iris, so to speak, varies according to the ambient temperature, from blue (cold) to bright orange (warm).
Il Flood Sensor it is instead the FIBARO version of a classic flood sensor, useful to intercept any domestic flooding (Z-Wave e Appthe HomeKits – REVIEW); the two sensors close the panorama (both Z-Wave and HomeKit) respectively Smoke (of smoke) e CO (carbon monoxide).
In a practical sense, the already mentioned several times Smart Implant can be useful for the automation of traditional alarm systems (as explained also in this example based on Sonoff).
The large excursion into the FIBARO world is completed by the set of activation actuators composed of The Button, a big button Z-Wave e Appthe HomeKits used to control the most diverse home automation functions, followed by Keyfob, a remote control Z-Wave and finally Swipe, a touch screen that allows the management of the FIBARO ecosystem with simple touches of the hand.
The "Home" line of FIBARO is so wide that it cannot be judged synthetically as we usually do. What is certainly possible to say is that FIBARO presents to the market of personal domotics a very wide list of components, with some cases of real excellence both in quality of materials and philosophy progettuale. What we will do next is a review the widest range of products of this line, so as to provide those who read us with an analysis as always (hopefully) punctual with respect not only to functionality, but also - if not above all - with respect to the themes that are so dear to us, such as home automation integration, compatibility, absolute value.
