XIAOMI: A MICROCOSMUS
"Xiaomi MI Smart Home"(Or even Mijia) it is a family of domotic components among the most known and known, fact motivated low cost, from the high integration ed expandability, from the large number of different components useful to cover the most disparate needs in the domotic environment. Mainly, it is a solution based - mainly - on proProtocol ZigBee.
Moreover, great compatibility with an ever growing list of components compatible with this system (first of all the devices in the line Aqara Smart Home Automation of Chinese LUMI) makes it an even more interesting solution than others, closed in on themselves, which do not allow integrating additional components if not the profirst line products.
"Xiaomi Mi Smart Home" is composed of two families of domotic components: those based on proProtocol ZigBee and those based on connection TCP/IP. As final management tool (for the configuration and management of the components), Xiaomi makes available, for Android e iOS, the appmobile communication "Xiaomi Mi Home".
How it works
To check / consult any component / actuator / sensor of the “Xiaomi Mi Smart Home"Through theapp "Xiaomi Mi Home" it is necessary to distinguish between the connected elements means proProtocol ZigBee and those through TCP/IP. The latter connect directly to the Wi-Fi, therefore theapp mobile is able to register them and then manage them directly. For the elements connected through proProtocol ZigBeeinstead - given that smartphones no I am able to transmit using this protocollo radio - it is necessary to introduce in domotics lo "Xiaomi Smart Home Gateway", or a small device BRIDGE/Gateway Zigbee↔︎TCP/IP able to interface on one side on the Wi-Fi (and therefore onapp Mi Home) and the other on proProtocol ZigBee.
This component therefore acts from concentrator for these components and also for those - always ZigbBee connected - not directly prolearned by Xiaomi but compatible with the line "Smart Home", for example the aforementioned "Aqara".
Theapp "Xiaomi Mi Home" rappsents theHUB of the solution "Xiaomi Mi Smart Home" as rappresents the element where not only the components are managed but also where they are defined - and where they are performed - the automations. Such automations can obviously involve several components at the same time (eg, against the status of a sensor, activate an actuator).
Some components of the line are:
- Sensorand opening gates
- Sensorand presence (infrared volumetric)
- Sensorand relative humidity and temperature
- Sensorand vibration
- Sensorand smoke detection
- Sensorand flooding
- IP Cam
- Smart sockets and slippers
- Sockets for E14 and E27 bulbs
and much more - also and above all lines proparallel ducts and compatible with the system, as explained above.
inDomus has had the opportunity to test, in association with gateway of this line, the following components:
- Xiaomi line “Mi Smart Home"(Mijia)
- Xiaomi Mi Flora Smart (multi-sensor for Bluetooth plants)
- Xiaomi Mijia - Bluetooth LCD temperature / humidity sensor
- Xiaomi Mijia / LUMI Aqara - (Magic) Cube
- Xiaomi Mijia / LUMI Aqara - flooding sensor
- Xiaomi Mijia / LUMI Aqara - door opening sensor
- Xiaomi Mijia / LUMI Aqara - smoke sensor by Honeywell
- Xiaomi Mijia / LUMI Aqara - temperature, humidity and pressure sensor
In terms compatibility, the line "Xiaomi Mi Smart Home” presents light / dark.
To date it supports Google Home (Assistant) (although in a limited manner), while full compatibility with Amazon Alexa is not guaranteed (if not through integration with HUB personal).
Compatibility with Apple HomeKit is not available, as the gateway it is not compatible with this standard.
IFTTT? Not received.
Theapp of management, the aforementioned "Xiaomi Mi Home", it works but is not ideal: it has technical limitations and is bound to the internet cloud of produttore, which makes connection to the network a must for the correct functionnameplatform management / management.
A latere: from the beginning of the 2019 the gateway of this line supports also bulbs of the IKEA TRÅDFRI system.
A completely different matter, instead, in terms of integration.
For the “Xiaomi line Smart Home”There are components / platforms for Home Assistant that allow you to integrate almost all the components of the line. The positive aspect is also in the fact that the configuration is carried out by pointing - via the local network - directly to the Xiaomi Gateway, thus avoiding thepersonale HUB to connect to external API servers (with all the advantages in terms of security and availability of the service). On inDomus we have dedicated an ad hoc guide for the integration of Gateway Xiaomi (and therefore of all the accessories ZigBee connected to it) a Home Assistant.
Same speech for Homebridge, which has more than a plug-in for the configuration integration of these components. The same applies to openHAB, which presents a binding appas well as Domoticz, which presents partial compatibility.
Side note: in addition to what is listed, there is more than one node per Node-RED designed to receive / send commands to the Xiaomi platform.
Reading this sheet suggests - correctly - that the Xiaomi components ZigBee they can be managed and integrated with ours personal HUBonly through the adoption of Gateway Xiaomi Mijia responsible for the purpose. It is not (entirely) like this: these components are, in fact, to a large extent compatible also with a gateway standard made using free software deCONZ and the antenna ConBee/RaspBee or with the software zigbee2mqttand the antenna CC2531. The advantage of this approalternative solution is to be able to coordinate multiple components ZigBee, directly on personale HUB, also of prodifferent drivers. A careful reading of the data sheet is recommended deCONZ. Regardless, to integrate the gateway Xiaomi with the personal HUBit is necessary that the firmware version of the component is equal to or less than the 1.41.159. Higher firmware does not allow the integration described here, except the implementation of this guide.
|"Xiaomi Mi Smart Home" we like it because it allows us to introduce good quality home automation components - both in terms of materials and in terms of design - by tackling a limited expense. There are two big pluses: the very wide domotics integrability (although against a low compatibility offered natively by the promanufacturer) and compatibility guaranteed by Gateway towards many others products ZigBee-based.|
A final note: being a line based mainly on proProtocol ZigBee, the alternative to the adoption of BRIDGE/Gateway expected concentrator may be to use i gateway ZigBee of the Dresden Elektronik, or "RaspBee" and "ConBee”- obviously, through the adoption of HUB personal software.
