SMALL BUT GREAT
The temperature, humidity and barometric pressure sensor of the line LUMI Aqara Smart Home Automation (or of the line Xiaomi Mi Smart Home (Mijia): it is in practice the same prodotto) is a small dedicated radio component appgreasy to the detection of these environmental metrics at our home automation environment.
It is a sensor very simple but well done, both in functionality and design: about five centimeters of side, of almost insignificant weight (a few grams), it can be positioned practically anywhere in the environment to be monitored. The sensor is powered by a standard button battery CR2032.
Being a standard-based component ZigBee, you can use it combined with different, different BRIDGE/Gateway ZigBee↔︎TCP/IP as for example that of the profirst family (the Aqara Smart Home Automation) or compatible (like that of the family Xiaomi Mi Smart Home, or Homey). Obviously, in the absence of such gateway the solution (among the most jokes) may be to adopt a BRIDGE/Gateway compatible with a personal HUBsoftware, or directly a personal hardware HUB.
Il pairing - or the installation - takes place by combined use of the BRIDGE/Gateway and of the sensor itself: taking for granted the previous, initial configuration of the gateway on proman app mobile control, it will be sufficient to open such applation (taking care to be on it Wi-Fi by the gateway) and hold down the back of the sensor that hides a button: after three seconds the sensor will be detected by theapp e will be added to the operating environment at which it can then be configured in terms of notifications and automatisms.
The construction materials struck us for quality and compactness. Use is obviously limited at the range of radio transmission between sensor and Gateway that in the field ZigBee, the air line is certified for at least 100 meters (without obstacles and in the absence of signal repeaters).
Accuracy of the sensor is at the tenth of a degree and at the tenth of a percentage on the temperature and humidity readings; the average deviation is +/- 0,3 degrees centigrade on temperature and +/- 3% on humidity.
As anticipated there are two versions of the same sensor, that one Xiaomi is that Aqara. The procommunication protocol is it ZigBee for both, however, the features are not the same: the Xiaomi version it is not equipped of barometric pressure detection.
Talk about the grade compatibility of a single component ZigBee it makes little sense. In fact, these components cannot be used alone but only coupled with an element BRIDGE/Gateway Zigbee↔︎TCP/IP, therefore its compatibility derives directly from the degree of compatibility of this "collector" element to which it is associated.
We have a way to test cars with success this associated sensor:
- al gateway Family Xiaomi Mi Smart Home (Mijia);
- al gateway of the Aqara Smart family Home Automation;
- a deCONZ with ConBee and / or RaspBee;
- a zigbee2mqtt with CC2531;
- ad Homey.
Use of the sensor associated with gateway Xiaomi and Aqara provides partial compatibility with Google Assistant e Amazon Alexa, while the service is not supported IFTTT. As we will see below, these limits can be circumvented in some cases by the degree of integrability of these gateway. Furthermore, while the gateway Aqara it is natively compatible with Appthe HomeKits, gateway Xiaomi is not.
Use with ConBee and RaspBee implicitly provides a high degree of compatibility, given that these two gateway work directly with personal HUBsoftware.
Owners of Homey can directly use the sensor without needing gateway (it is Homey itself), therefore since Homey is compatible with Google Assistant e Amazon Alexa (as well as IFTTT), it also becomes the sensor.
The degree of home automation integrability, as for compatibility, it goes through the gateway to which the sensor is connected.
Il gateway Xiaomi it can be integrated with practically all realities HUB best known software:
- Home Assistant (see integration guide);
- Homebridge (to render the gateway and therefore the accessories connected to it compatible Appthe HomeKits);
As compatible natively with Appthe HomeKits, il gateway Aqara it cannot be integrated with HUB personal software. In practice using a gateway Aqara it is not possible to integrate the accessories connected to it profirst personal home automation. The alternative to solve this proproblem exists: use the sensor with the gateway of the line Xiaomi, which can be integrated with personal HUB(unlike the Aqara). A clarification is a must: given that the HUB perosnali are in turn compatible Appthe HomeKits, the fact that the gateway Xiaomi is not compatible with Apple HomeKit is a not-proBlema.
If instead to integrate the sensor to the proprio personale HUB do not want to use a gateway Xiaomi / Aqara can be used alternatively elements like the BRIDGE/Gateway software deCONZ combined with antennas ConBee and / or RaspBee (the first with any computer the second specifically with Raspberry Pi). Another alternative: it is possible to integrate the sensor through the BIRDGE /Gateway given by the binomial zigbee2mqtt + CC2531.
Homey, as mentioned, contains an antenna in itself ZigBee, therefore it is able to autonomously integrate the sensor without the need for other components.
|Really not bad this sensor, especially the Aqara version. It's good to be cheap, to be quite precise and to be positioned just about everywhere, and unlike many others it has a sense of this type, the barometric reading.|
The great domotics integrability not only allows us to receive readings (not just from theapp mobile, but from our personal home automation based on HUB personal), ma also and above all to insert the sensor which trigger for possible automations (to signal, perhaps, particular environmental conditions.
Temperature and humidity (as well as pressure, why not) are vital readings within a personal home automation. It works well, it costs little, we like it aesthetically, the battery seems eternal: we recommend it without any hesitation. This is perhaps our preferred temperature sensor.
