Abstract

Among the many scenarios useful in home automation is to leave the home automation itself the burden of performing series of automatic actions when certain conditions arise, for example “when we leave the house","when someone comes back","when i go to sleep","in the event of emergencies such as the presence of smoke or flooding" etc.

In the list of these actions an extremely useful one can be included to house garden irrigation, or in the presence of elderly or dependent persons, or particularly of family people appresentful or conscientious: the closing / opening of the gas and / or water inflow in the housing unit at specific times of the day.

We will go then also this time to domotize the non domotic apppromoting an idea quite simple.

The idea of ​​the present projet, always remembering that:

is that to position a solenoid valve "normally open" (example) upstream of the plant (immediately downstream of the meter, for example, where perhaps an intercept valve already exists) or instead of a pre-existing general valve and piloting it with a simple home automation actuator.

A defined valve "normally open"Means that in its" normal state "(ie without tension applicata) the passage of the fluid It's guaranteed; a valve "normally closed"On the contrary, it prevents the flow from flowing without appvoltage regulation. For this projet we suggest a valve "normally open" since, in the absence of current for any black-out the normal use of the flow under control (whether it be gas, or water) would still be guaranteed, home automation or not.

Having said this - clarified the valve discourse - let's analyze how to domotize this element: simple, through a home automation actuator from 10 euro, a Sonoff Basic modified with firmware Sonoff-Tasmota.

Nb. firmware modification it is not essential if you just want to check Manually the open / closed state of the valve, for this reason theapp native of ITEAD, eWeLink. To better integrate the actuator in our personale HUB

instead it will be necessary to update its firmware: this appwill give access to the device for integration with the rest of our home automation (offer appanointed by the presence of a personale HUB) and, therefore, to automations above hypothesized.

The idea - very trivial - is therefore to connect the output of Sonoff Basic at the solenoid valve power input "normally open”- fed to 220v (see example) - which, when it receives tension, it closes. In the face of the disabling by the Sonoff (or in the event of a blackout!), the valve opens.

Home automation integration

As explained, the solution promail can be implemented net of owning or not owning personale HUB directly exploiting the Sonoff Basic "Factory" supported by the other party applicativa ITEAD eWeLink.

The moment in which the introduction becomes necessary of an ordinary and / or emergency automation (see next chapter), consequently the introduction on a personal HUB(like Home Assistant, openHAB, Domoticz, Homebridge+AppleHomeKit etc.) becomes compulsory.

At this point the Sonoff could be configured like a switch controllable manually (as needed) and / or through automation. Read this page to get an idea about this configuration at the most well-known of the HUB, Home Assistant.

Suggested automations

Once the home automation actuator is inserted How entity at a personale HUB, the limit to automatic management is linked to the availability of other entities and proprior needs and imagination.
